Dewey Miller – Pastor

Rev. Dewey Miller has deep Hoosier roots, acquiring his education at Ball State University, Taylor University, and Anderson School of Theology. He received his Master of Divinity Degree in 1991 and was ordained an Elder in the Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church in 1993.

During Pastor Dewey’s extensive career, he has ministered to seniors, led children and youth ministries, and built a ministry for those in poverty and need.  Pastor Dewey’s community outreach efforts have included development of neighborhood Bible clubs, Board Chair at the Shed Youth Center in LaGrange, and President, Howe Community Association.  He has worked extensively with mission programs for youth and young adults, leading teams around the world and is Executive Director of Kuandaa International, a mission agency focused on training pastors and church leaders around the world, as well as planting new churches.

Shannon Miller – Director of Children’s Ministries

Shannon has a lifetime of experience in Children’s Ministry. She has served several churches in children’s ministry staff and volunteer positions. In that role she especially enjoys developing relationships with children. She also has extensive experience in child care settings, including as Founder and Director of the YMCA Day Care Center in one community. Shannon is committed to reaching children for Jesus and using whatever means necessary to do that. She oversees the Sunday morning children’s programs, including the nursery and Sunday school. In addition, she plans and operates the annual Vacation Bible School and other children’s ministry programs and events.

Our children’s minister, Gracie Schmidt, grew up in the Evansville area. Graduating in the spring of 2024, she will obtain her undergraduate degree in elementary education at the University of Southern Indiana. She has a background in theatre and history. Gracie is passionate about working with children in the education world and advocating for them. She has worked for various organizations, including the Smithsonian Institution, doing this. She is so excited to be apart of the mission of CUMC by working with the children!

Vickie joined the Central United Methodist Church staff in August of 2019. She is married to James Pokorney. Vickie is a mom and grandmother. She was born and raised in Evansville, and for a few years lived in the New England area. Vickie enjoys working with Central members and staff. When not working, she likes to visit her grandchildren.

Mandy has been employed with Central Child Care since 2001. After many years of teaching, she had the wonderful opportunity to become the Director of the Child Care. Mandy loves working with the children and their families. Katie grew up in Evansville and graduated from North High School. She then attended Oakland City University and received her Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education. Katie has worked for Central Child Care since 2014 but has recently moved into her new position with the church and Child Care in 2018. She has been married for 10 years to Justin, and they have two beautiful children Jensen and Kinsley. She enjoys spending time with her family, being outdoors, and traveling to new places with her family.

Open Position – Director of Youth Ministries
 
Our prior director just finished her Master’s degree and has moved out of state. She reinvigorated the program for the youth of Central UMC providing them opportunities to attend mission trips, retreats, and do service projects for our church. We are looking for someone to continue the program and help it grow even more, guiding the youth of Central UMC in their walk with God.
