Outreach Ministries

Central United Methodist, a community of Shalom, is committed to outreach ministry and community service. We sponsor a Boy Scout troop, a senior citizens group, United Methodist Men, United Methodist Women, and quilters who donate their earnings to missions. We also offer to the neighboring community a Food Pantry and the "Rack Shack," where low income families can shop for clothing and household items.  As a community of Shalom, we seek to be the catalyst for change, improvement, & growth in our community.

A vital part of our Shalom initiative is the POWER/Tutoring Program. We offer tutoring on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and a social program on Wednesdays. The tutors are students from the local universities who help children from Kindergarten through 5th grade

We have a tutoring program, computer lab, and now have a first class indoor playground for use by the neighborhood children, child care, and others. The soft contained indoor play system  composed of tunnels, decks, slides, and more.  The Shalom Children's Center also has a variety of games such as ping pong, foosball, air hockey, and electronic football.  The Wednesday social program includes games, crafts, field trips and a hot meal.

Along with a Parish Nurse program, we work closely with Project Weed and Seed to maintain a Safe Haven for children and adults.

We are part of the Jacobsville Neighborhood Association and Congregations Acting for Justice.  For more information on any of these programs, please contact Nancy Reid or Carol Crabtree.
