Looking Back
Well tomorrow I will turn another year older, and although it is always fun to look ahead and dream about what will happen in the next year, I always find it is more fun to look back on the past year and celebrate all that God has done in this tiny life that I call my own.
It has been a busy 30th year of my life with a lot of big changes and big happenings along the way. It was this time last year that we had just made the decision to move to Evansville, and had just found out that we would be adding a fourth member to our little family. It is amazing to look back and see how God aligned everything for our move here to Evansville from Quincy. Our house sold before we left, we had a very blessed farewell from our friends in Quincy, we were blessed with housing in Evansville through the generosity of an incredible man, and financially we did it without it becoming a burden on our family.
Little Abel then arrived in June of this past year and rearranged our lives in glorious ways. The transition has been beautiful as his big brother Gideon has been wowing us at each new milestone. Abel has stretched our lives in some ways, but he has brought so much joy, laughter, life, and drool into our home. Don’t get me wrong, I love my wife, but to watch her care for our sons at this young age just endears her to my heart all the more.
So we had a successful move, a successful birth experience with Abel, so why not throw in a trip to Uganda to make beds with Sweet Sleep. I was broken in new ways in Uganda, and saw God so clearly through the lives of the little orphans that we served. Now that I have seen Uganda, and held Joseph and Amos in my arms I am responsible in new ways for not just my future, but theirs as well. My life and my future have been forever impacted by this journey, and I am still listening to that still small voice for where He is leading us next.
I am a blessed man, and I have had one of the most action packed and fulfilling years of my life. Thank you Lord, and here’s to # 31!
