Family Life Center

In November 2004, Central UMC made the decision to add a Family Life Center to it’s facility.  With construction of the Family Life Center, Central was adding more space for ministry, space for new and expanded activities, and a much needed kitchen to serve the on-site day care facility (Central Child Care) as well as church socials and functions and community outreach/service.  Construction of the Family Life Center was done largely by church members from youth to seasoned adults.  Many man-hours of hard labor, with some good fellowship opportunities along the way, resulted in this approximate 9,300 square foot multi-use facility, which includes a middle-school size gym/multipurpose space, a commercial-size kitchen, a meeting room, and bathrooms with showers.

It is our desire that this facility be used for church and neighborhood functions, that it be a place where children can safely play and where community groups and organizations could gather, but that it still feel comfortable enough for families and smaller groups to enjoy its use as well.  Since it’s opening, Central’s Family Life Center has hosted church and neighborhood functions including Sunday morning services, chili cook offs, church-wide birthday parties, basketball games, children and youth activities, concerts, rummage sales, free neighborhood meals, prayer labyrinths, family dinners, birthday parties, holiday meals, lock-ins, Wednesday evening church gatherings, weekly games of pick-up basketball, Evansville District Lenten Breakfasts, and many more activities.

We would love to house your next event or function and hope that you will give us a look to see what we have to offer.  Below are some pictures of the facility, rental rates, and contact information.  If you would like more information, please contact us or stop by for a tour.  We would love to show you what we have to offer!

Guidelines for Use of the Family Life Center

  1. Ministries of Central UMC will not be charged for activities.  However, the facility must still be reserved and an agreement must be signed. To reserve the gym or kitchen without cost, the person signing the agreement must be an active church member.  (Donations to help offset maintenance and utilities cost are appreciated.)
  2. A deposit is required anytime the facilities are rented.  The deposit will be returned if the FLC is left in good condition.  Please allow 10 days for return of your deposit.
  3. People or groups renting the facilities are responsible for using it in a reasonable manner and leaving it in good shape.  If the costs to clean up a mess or repair damages exceed the deposit, those renting the facilities can be billed for these additional costs.
  4. If you are going to be using the FLC when it is not unlocked, please make arrangements in advance with the church secretary to pick up a key.  The office is open Mon-Fri from 8:00-4:30.  Other pick-up times will require special arrangements.  No one may give his/her key to another person or duplicate a key.  If the key is not returned, the deposit will be forfeited and there may be an additional charge to cover the cost of changing locks.
  5. Lock-ins must be approved in advance by the Board of Trustees.  The trustees must be assured that responsible adults will adequately supervise the lock-in and that it is an event appropriate to be held at the church.  Lock-ins sponsored by Central United Methodist Church and supervised by staff members or church officers need only approval from the Senior Pastor or Trustee Chair.
  6. The FLC is a multi-use facility with preference given to church functions and activities for children and youth.  If your event requires extensive decorating it will be available no sooner than 4:00 p.m. on the day before your event.  Other special arrangements must go through the Senior Pastor or the Chair of Trustees.
  7. Never leave the building unlocked and unattended.
  8. The building will not be rented during worship hours without the approval of the Senior Pastor and the Chair of Trustees.
  9. Tables and chairs must be returned to their original storage location unless the custodian is being paid to move them or if he requests otherwise.  Tables and chairs are not to be carried from the FLC without permission of the Chair of Trustees.
  10. If you plan to use a caterer for your event, please select one from our list of approved caterers.
  11. Non-members, social entities and for-profit groups are required to provide proof of insurance in the amount of $1,000,000 and to provide a certificate of insurance naming Central United Methodist Church as an additional insured.  Any exception to this rule must be approved by the Board of Trustees.
