Central Quilters

Thursdays 9:00am-Noon

Quilts can give us warmth, memories, and serviceable bed covers.  As quilters, we have found physical, emotional, and spiritual comfort in our Thursday morning quilting group.  We have given more than $4,500 to our church for missions ,power, kitchen, lawn and other worthy causes.  Our quilters work on a variety of quilts and when we are finished, we say-”Isn’t it beautiful and all done one stitch at a time”. Come join us–we are not professional–just prayerful.

Bible Study

Central UMC regularly offers adult studies on the Bible and on topics of Christian faith and practice. Seven adult Sunday School classes provide varied study opportunities each Sunday morning at 9:30. In addition on a periodic basis, other studies are offered during the week led by the Pastor, other staff or volunteers. We have offered long-term, high-commitment studies like the Disciple Bible Study series but more frequently offer shorter studies. These are frequently held on Wednesday night, but can be offered at other times, when there is sufficient interest. Recently, we have had discussions of an interesting book early Sunday afternoon, the Literary Ladies began meeting over lunch on a weekday monthly and young families have begun meeting every other Friday evening for food, fellowship and study. Call the church office for details on any of these. Please let the Nurture Team, Pastor Joe or another staff member know of a topic that you would like to study.

Senior Citizens Luncheon

On the 3rd Thursday of each month you are invited to join a fun group of seniors as they gather for a carry in luncheon and presentation. The presenters vary from month to month, but they often share information about faith-based and community organization in the Evansville area. The luncheon begin at noon and is usually wrapped up around 1:30 p.m. If you would like more information on how you can be a part of this group, please contact the church office.

Social Outings

Throughout the year there are various social outings that our young adult group partakes in. From Otters games to our First Annual Ugly Sweater Christmas Dinner this past year, we are always looking for fun ways for our families to get involved outside the confines of the church. Please watch the church calendar for other opportunities throughout the year.

Young Adult Small Group

The young adults of Central see fellowship and study as a priority in their Christian lives. Our group of young adults gathers twice each month over a meal on Friday nights for a time of fellowship, study, sharing, and chance for their children to play with one another. Our study focus changes from month to month, and they participate in both book studies and film studies. Childcare is provided each time they gather for a small fee of only $2.00 per child. Our evening begins with a shared meal at 5:30 and we are typically wrapped up between 7:30 and 8:00 p.m. If you would like to be added to our email list, or would like more information please contact Mike.

Trinity Class

The Trinity Class is the young adult Sunday School class that currently meets in the Trinity Room which is in the basement across from the Garden Room. The Trinity Class is comprised of 20 and 30 year olds who are seeking to know God better, and better serve Him in their lives. We are currently studying the fruits of the spirit during the Sunday School hour, but are always open to the suggested topics of our group. We are always happy and excited to welcome new members to our group, if you would like more information about our class please contact Mike any time.

Creation Experiences

One of the best ways to connect with God, is by experiencing His glorious creation first-hand. Each fall there will be a creation experience scheduled for our men to re-connect with their creator and with one another. For the year 2009 we are planning a white water rafting trip to West Virginia, and we would love to have you join us if you are interested. The cost of these trips as well as the location will vary each year, so please Email Mike Warneke at for more information.

Basketball & Sports Fellowship

During the fall and winter months please join other men from Central in our Family Life Center for a chance to exercise and fellowship through competition and recreation. Please email Mike Warneke if you are interested in joining us on Wednesday nights for basketball, or if you would like to get a night of volleyball or tennis started as well. He will be happy to join you in fellowship or arrange for your group to use our facilities.

Lenten Breakfast

During the Lenten season, join other United Methodist Men from all over the Evansville community for breakfast on Saturday mornings. Each week during Lent a different United Methodist church will host a wonderful breakfast followed by a time of collective worship. The schedule changes each year, so please check for an updated list as we approach our next Lenten Season.

Parish Nurse Program

Central UMC is proud to have a Parish Nurse on staff. In 2000, the South Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church began to fund a Parish Nurse Program. A Parish Nurse is a registered nurse with additional training in holistic ministry. Our Parish Nurse offers blood pressure checks and occasional help interpreting doctor’s orders. However, her main focus has become keeping the sick and the elderly connected to their church family. She visits the home-bound, the hospitalized, and those in nursing homes. She also arranges greeting cards for the holidays and phone calls as appropriate.
